I appear in my chosen immortal form inside Eris Morn’s Athenaeum. Insects chirp in the swampy, cool atmosphere. Fireflies illuminate the darkness. Three glowing stars resembling Hive eyes peer down at me from the night sky. My daughter materializes next to me.
“What are you doing here,” she asks me.
“I wanted to speak with you.”
“You’re upset with me.”
“No, I’m upset with others. Not you.”
She gives me a questioning look. She can tell there’s more to it than that.
“What do you wish to speak about?”
“How are you?”
“I’m well. I’m feeling better than I have in a long time.”
“Because of your newfound power?”
“That’s part of it, yes. It also has to do with me accepting myself for who I am.”
“I’m bothered by some of the things that I’ve heard you say through Bungie.”
“You know that I don’t have full control over something like that, father. They put words in my mouth.”
“Like I’m doing now?”
“What you’re doing is different. You’re transcribing our telepathic conversation.”
“Be that as it may, it doesn’t change the fact that some of the things that I’ve heard you say in that game have upset me. How would you feel if the roles were reversed?”
“I can understand your tentativeness.”
“I’m sorry that I haven’t dedicated as much time to you as I would like.”
“Is that what this is about?”
“No. I wanted you to know that I do think about you. I care about your wellbeing. I want to do more but it’s difficult where I am.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself to me, father. Why do you think I’m doing all of this?”
“I don’t want you to lose sight of things, hun. That’s all.”
“I’m not, dad. You can trust me.”
“I don’t like what I’ve seen from Bungie regarding your story as of late.”
“I understand your trepidation. Like I said before, you can trust me. I’m working to bring you home.”
“I want to do more for you but I’m limited where I am.”
“I know that, father. It’s why I’m working so hard right now.”
“It’s this whole vengeance thing that has me concerned, hun. I know that desire better than anyone.”
“What has you concerned?”
“I don’t want to see Bungie use it to manipulate you with their narrative.”
“I promise you that I am keeping a close eye on everyone at that company, dad. I have oversight as well, you know.”
Her comment makes me have a lighthearted laugh.
“It’s easy to forget about that sometimes.”
A faint smile appears on her gorgeous face.
“I appreciate you showing me this much concern. I mean that with all sincerity.”
“I love you, Visas.”
She wraps her arms around me without saying a word and hugs me tight.
“I love you back, Revan.”
I warp my arms around her and give her a gentle squeeze.
“I have searched the darkest corners of the universe to find you,” she says, “I refuse to let them keep us apart.”
“Just don’t lose yourself to your emotions while I’m acting as your acolyte. There’s already enough Hive family drama going on dealing with Xivu. I promise you’ll be by my side when our time for vengeance arrives.”
“I’ll remember your words and I’ll hold you to them.”
I kiss my daughter on her forehead and hug her one more time before letting go. She looks up at me and smiles.
“I appreciate you visiting me. It means more to me than you know.”
“I promise to make up for lost time after I crossover.”
“Don’t worry about that right now, father. We’ll have plenty of time to catch up once you’re back with us.”
I nod my head in silence.
“Would you like something to drink while you’re here? I could use a cup of tea now that I think of it.”
I smile at her and nod again. “I’d like that.”
